BISCUITS FROM SCRATCH 
2 c. all-purpose flour
1/2 c. shortening
1/2 tsp. salt
4 tbsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
2 tbsp. sugar
1 egg
2/3 c. milk

Sift dry ingredients together and cut in shortening until crumbly. Add milk and egg. Stir only until mixed. Roll 3/4 to 1-inch thick, cut and bake on greased cookie sheet for 12-15 minutes at 450°F.
