1/2 c. shortening
1 c. sugar
2 eggs
2 c. flour
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 c. applesauce
2 tsp. baking soda, dissolved in 2 tbsp. water
1 c. raisins
1 tsp. cloves
1/2 tsp. salt

Cream shortening and sugar and add eggs. Mix in remaining ingredients. Pour into well greased large loaf tin. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour. When cooled, remove from loaf tin and frost all sides and top with thick white powdered sugar frosting.
