SPICE CAKE WITH BUTTERMILK SAUCE 
1 1/2 c. sugar
2 eggs
1 c. oil
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1. buttermilk
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. nutmeg
1 tsp. allspice
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. raisins
1 c. chopped walnuts

Mix sugar, oil and eggs. Add dry ingredients. Add raisins and chopped nuts. Bake in a greased and floured 9 x 12 pan at 300 degrees for 15 minutes then at 350 degrees for 45 minutes more. When the cake is baked, immediately cut it into squares and cover with the buttermilk sauce. Be sure the sauce covers the entire cake.

Buttermilk Sauce:
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. buttermilk
3/4 c. butter
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 tsp. baking soda

Cook in a pan on stove. Bring to a boil and boil one minute. These ingredients will triple in bulk, so use a large pan.
