CHRISTMAS SPICED WINE 
1 qt. water
2 c. sugar
12 whole cloves
4 cinnamon sticks
6 whole allspice
1/2 tsp. ginger
Peel of 1 orange
Peel of 1 lemon
2 c. orange juice
1 c. lemon juice
1 fifth bottle burgundy or claret (or 2 qts. cider)

Combine water, sugar, spices, lemon and orange peels in a saucepan. Bring to boil until sugar dissolves. Simmer 10 minutes. Remove from heat and let stand 1 hour. Strain and add juices and wine. Heat, but do not boil. Serve hot in mugs and garnish with lemon and/or orange slices. Makes 20 servings. (Hint: Place spices in cheesecloth bag to make removal easy.)
