BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES 
4 qts. cucumbers, sliced
1 1/2 c. onion
1 clove garlic
1/2 c. pickling salt
4 1/2 c. sugar
3 1/2 tsp. pickling spice
2 tbsp. mustard seed
3 c. vinegar
2 qts. ice cubes

Boil cucumber, onion and garlic and salt, then ice. Let stand 3 hours, drain water off, then put sugar, spices and vinegar. Let come to boil. Dump all cucumbers in and heat 5 minutes. Put in jars and process for 5 minutes.
