PASSOVER KNOBEL (GARLIC) BORSHT 
1 lb. flanken
1 qt. water
1/4 c. sugar
Juice of 1 lemon
1/2 tsp. salt
1 bay leaf
1 onion, halved
1 lb. beets, peeled & sliced
2 cloves garlic
1/8 tsp. pepper

Boil flanken in 1 quart water with all ingredients except beets until soft. When almost done add beets and simmer 10 minutes until beets are soft. Taste and adjust. Do not undercook.
