GLAZED OATMEAL CAKE 
1 c. rolled oats (quick or regular)
1 1/2 c. boiling water
1/2 c. (1 stick) butter
1 c. granulated sugar
1 c. brown sugar, packed
2 eggs
1 1/3 c. flour
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. nutmeg

GLAZE:

1/2 c. butter
1/4 c. milk
1 c. brown sugar
1/2 c. nuts
1/2 c. coconut

Cover uncooked oats with boiling water and set aside for about 20 minutes.

In a mixing bowl, cream together butter and sugars. Blend in eggs. Mix in oats, then dry ingredients. If desired, add dates or raisins to cake mixture. Bake in a greased 9x13 inch pan at 350 degrees for 30-35 minutes.

GLAZE: Bring to a boil the butter, milk and brown sugar. Add nuts and coconut. Spoon glaze on cake as soon as cake is done. Place under broiler 4-5 minutes. Serve warm or cold.
