PEANUT SURPRISE COOKIES 
1 c. shortening, part butter
2 c. brown sugar, packed
2 eggs
2 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
2 c. quick oatmeal
1 c. Wheaties
1 c. coarsely chopped salted peanuts

Cream shortening. Add sugar gradually and cream thoroughly. Then blend in well beaten eggs. Sift flour, baking powder, soda, and salt together. Add with oatmeal to creamed mixture. Blend in Wheaties, salted peanut. Drop by spoonfuls onto lightly greased baking sheet. Bake 10-12 minutes at 375 degrees. Makes 60 cookies 2 inches in diameter.

When we made these cookies back in the 50's from a recipe in the Gold Medal flour sack, we made them with peanut butter and flattened them with a fork. They were the family favorite for years, but the original recipe has disappeared. Would modifications be necessary to use peanut butter rather than peanuts?
