BREAD STICKS 
1/4 c. sugar
2 tbsp. shortening
2 tsp. salt
2 c. boiling water
1 tsp. sugar
1/2 c. warm water
2 pkgs. yeast
6 1/4 c. flour (you may substitute 1/2 wheat flour for white flour)

Mix together the 1/4 cup sugar, shortening, and boiling water. Let cool. Mix together the 1 teaspoon sugar, water, and yeast. Add yeast mixture to shortening mixture. In mixer gradually add flour. Cover and let rise 10 minutes. Then "spoon down." Continue doing this process 5 times - every 10 minutes. Roll in your hand into whatever size bread stick you desire.

Put on greased pan. Let rise. Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes. Check periodically to desired light brown. Before baking, you may rub with butter and add garlic salt and parsley, or you may do this process after baking.
