PONG'S PRUNE CAKE | |
2 c. flour 1 1/2 c. sugar 1 c. buttermilk 1 c. Wesson oil (any kind of cooking oil) 1 tsp. salt 1 tsp. cinnamon 1 tsp. nutmeg 1 tsp. baking powder 1 tsp. vanilla 1 tsp. baking soda dissolved in buttermilk 1 1/2 c. prunes, cook and cut in pieces 3 eggs 1 c. black walnuts Combine flour, sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon, salt and baking powder. Add cooking oil, mix well. Add soda and buttermilk, mix well. Add eggs, stir in nuts, prunes, and vanilla. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour. For 2 layers, bake 35 minutes at 325 degrees. SAUCE: 1 c. sugar 1/2 c. buttermilk 1/4 c. butter 1 tbsp. white Karo 1 scant tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. vanilla Mix and cook until thick and slightly brown, about 10 minutes. Pour hot sauce over cake while cake is warm. |
