SCRUMPTIOUS CHOCOLATE LAYER BARS | |
FILLING: 12 oz. pkg. chocolate chips 8 oz. pkg. cream cheese 2/3 c. (5.3 oz.) evaporated milk 1 c. chopped walnuts 1/2 tsp. almond extract CRUST: 3 c. flour 1 1/2 c. sugar 1 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. salt 1 c. butter, softened 2 eggs 1/2 tsp. almond extract Combine chocolate chips, cream cheese, and evaporated milk in a medium saucepan. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly until chips are melted and mixture is smooth. Remove from heat; stir in nuts and 1/2 teaspoon almond extract. Blend well; set aside. Combine remaining ingredients in large mixer bowl and blend well until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Press half of mixture in a greased 9"x13" pan; spread with chocolate mixture. Sprinkle rest of crumbs over filling. Bake at 375 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes or until golden brown. Cool; cut into bars. Makes 36 bars. |
