SWEET AND SOUR RED CABBAGE 
1/2 c. butter
1/2 onion, chopped
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. white pepper
1 tsp. allspice
1/4 tsp. ground cloves
2 lb. red cabbage, shredded
1/2 c. boiling water
1/2 c. wine vinegar

Melt butter in large saucepan. Saute onion. Add sugar, seasonings, and cabbage to pan and mix. Add water, cover and simmer 1 hour. Add vinegar and simmer 10 minutes more. Serve hot.
