BEEF STEW IN TOMATO SAUCE 
2 onions, chopped
1 bell pepper, cut in strips
Stew beef (approx. 1 1/2 lb.)
1/4 tsp. garlic salt
1/2 c. water
1/4 tsp. pepper
1 tbsp. salt
1 sm. can tomato sauce
1/4 tsp. paprika

Brown meat in small amount of cooking oil. Remove meat from pan and saute onions and bell pepper together. Place in pot you are going to cook in and add spices and tomato sauce. Simmer approximately 1 1/2 hours or until meat is tender. Carrots and potatoes may be added last 30 minutes, if desired.

This is the closest I found to what I grew up eating and calling meat and tomatoes. It's basically the same thing but without the bell pepper, garlic salt and paprika. I'll have to try it with those "extra" ingredients. I eat is over rice and it is my absolute favorite of my mom's recipes.
