SUGAR COOKIES 
3/4 c. shortening (1/2 c. butter, 1/4 c. Crisco)
1 1/2 c. confectioners' sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg, unbeaten

Sift together:

2 1/2 c. flour
1 tsp. cream of tartar
1 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt

Cream shortening and sugar together. Add vanilla and shortening; mix well. Add dry ingredients gradually. Roll out dough. Cut with scalloped cutter (2 inch) a little thicker than 1/8 inch. Place 15 on ungreased pan. Bake at 425 degrees for 8 minutes. Yields: 40.

COOKIE FROSTING:

Just before using measure in bowl:

1 1/2 c. confectioners' sugar
1/8 tsp. cream of tartar
Pinch of salt
1 egg white

Beat at low speed until all mixed. At high speed, beat until very stiff. Spread on cookies and sprinkle with candy decorations. Coloring can be added.
