CHOCOLATE LAYER CAKE 
1 cup (2 sticks) butter
2 1/2 cups sugar
5 egg yolks
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
5 tbsp. chocolate cocoa
1 tsp. baking soda
dash of salt
1 (8 oz.) tub dairy sour cream or 1 cup buttermilk
5 egg whites

Preheat oven to 350°F.

Cream butter and sugar together. Add egg yolks, beating well.

Mix together flour, cocoa, baking soda and salt; add alternately with dairy sour cream or buttermilk.

Beat 5 egg yolks separately until stiff and fold in to rest of ingredients.

Pour into 2 greased and floured layer cake pans.

Bake at 350°F for 35 minutes or until cake tests done.

Allow cake to cool before icing. Ice between layers and top and sides.

Makes 1 (2 layer) cake.

ICING:

2 (1 lb. ea.) boxes confectioners' sugar
5 tbsp. cocoa
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
enough dairy sour cream for spreading consistency

Mix together all ingredients.
