I substituted the cocoa with chocolate pudding in the box. Turned out great! I had these as a kid and never knew the recipe until now. Surprising the hubby and kids tonight with them:)

Growing up we called these cookies "Edna's" birthday cookies because she would bring them to all the birthday parties. Sometimes there would be 20-30 kids at these parties. And usually 2 or 3 Birthday boys/girls at one time. Every one attended every party and we had so much fun swimming in the summer and ski-dooing or skating in the winter. Makes me smile to think of those Happy times.

We always called these Preacher Cookies, because when the preacher came over to visit it was a quick and easy recipe to fix. My mom and I always used raisins about 1/2 cup. They are delish!

I make 2 batches, 1 regular, 1 without the cocoa, they make a pretty platter. Also I generally pour them into a bar pan and cut them after cooling, it keeps them consistent in size and I have chewier less crumbly cookie.

I've been making these cookies for 40 years and my Mom made them before me.When I was in school, we had them in the cafeteria and could buy one about the size of your hand, for a nickle.I live on the outskirts of Chattanooga, and most people call them Hobknobs. Most of the grocery stores and Wal-Mart sell them here also. I never cared much for cookies, but when I start eating these, it's like eating potato chips, you can't eat just one! :)

I just love these cookies. My mom made them frequently when I was a child. They never lasted very long. I add a dash of salt to the recipe, since that is how mom made them. When I have not had white sugar (or enough white sugar) I have substituted either brown sugar or about 1/2 cup of pancake syrup. They both work if you are in a pinch. Enjoy!

I've made a similar recipe to this since I was a child. We called ours coconut tempters. Instead of cocoa we used only the peanut butter and 1 cup of coconut. We always liked this better than the chocolate ones

The cookies turned out excellently. However, my family thought they were too chocolatey. I've made this type many times but my old recipe called for only three fourths cup of cocoa. I'll go back to that next time.

I have made a ton of these! Yes, I cook mine longer also, but a great variation I now use is half quick cooking oats and half old fashioned oats. The textural difference is great!
