MOTHER'S RYE BREAD 
1 pkg. yeast
1/2 c. lukewarm water
2 1/2 c. hot water or potato water
1/2 c. lard (or butter)
1/2 c. molasses
1 c. sugar (brown or white)
2 tsp. salt
2 c. rye flour (or a little more)
White flour

Dissolve yeast in lukewarm water. Put hot water in mixing bowl. Add lard, molasses, sugar and salt. Stir in rye flour, then yeast mixture and stir well. Add white flour until stiff. Knead. Cover it in pan or on bread board for 10-15 minutes to rest. Then knead some more. Let rise and make into loaves. Bake at 350 degrees for about 40 minutes. Butter tops of loaves while still hot.
