OLD FASHIONED TOMATO SOUP 
2 c. fresh or canned tomatoes
1/2 tsp. baking soda
2 c. milk
2 tbsp. butter
1 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. pepper

Place tomatoes in a large saucepan. If using fresh tomatoes, simmer until tender. If canned, bring to a boil. Add soda. In another pan, scald milk. Add milk to tomatoes and stir. Add butter, salt and pepper, stirring well. Serve immediately with crisp crackers. Serves 4.
