1 c. whole wheat flour 1 c. white flour 1/2 c. sugar 1/2 tsp. salt 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder 3/4 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar 1/4 c. wheat germ 1/2 c. shortening (oleo or butter) 3/4 c. buttermilk Combine flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, soda, cream of tartar and wheat germ. Cut in shortening with pastry blender or fork, add buttermilk. Stir mixture with a fork until it becomes a ball. Pat out dough on a floured board to 1/2 inch thick. Cut with biscuit cutter. Bake on an ungreased cookie sheet at 350 degrees for 12 minutes. Remove form oven, split biscuits in half crosswise. Return to oven at 325 degrees to dry out. They should be very light brown. Serve with butter or cheese spread. |
