CHOCOLATE KISS COOKIE 
1/2 c. butter, softened
1 c. sugar
1 egg
2 tsp. vanilla extract
1 1/2 c. flour
1/3 c. cocoa
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
6 tbsp. milk
1 1/2 c. confectioners sugar
1 tbsp. shortening
36 milk chocolate kisses

Cream butter, sugar, egg and 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla in bowl until light and fluffy. Add mixture of flour, cocoa, soda and salt alternately with 1/4 cup milk, mixing well after each addition. Chill for 20 minutes. Shape into 1-inch balls. Place on ungreased cookie sheet.

Bake at 375°F for 10 minutes. Cool for 1 minute.

Combine 1/2 teaspoon vanilla, 2 tablespoons milk, confectioners sugar and shortening in bowl; mix well. Spread on warm cookies, leaving 1/2-inch border. Place chocolate kiss in center of each cookie. Press lightly. Cool on wire rack.

Yields 3 dozen.
