BLACK FOREST FLAN
1 box devil's food or chocolate fudge cake mix
1/2 c. Crisco oil
1 1/4 c. water
1 tsp. vanilla butter and nut flavoring
4 eggs (extra lg. or jumbo)
1 (3 oz.) box chocolate INSTANT pudding mix
1 (8 oz.) pkg. cream cheese, softened
1 1/2 c. confectioners' sugar
1 tsp. vanilla
2 cans cherry pie filling

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease bottom only of 2 flan pans.

In large mixer bowl, blend cake mix, oil, water, flavoring, eggs, and pudding mix. Beat on medium speed for 2 minutes. Divide batter evenly between the 2 pans. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until cakes spring back when touched lightly. Let rest on cooling racks 15 minutes and then invert onto racks and lift off the pans. Cool thoroughly. Place on serving plate.

Whip cheese, sugar and vanilla until smooth. Put half in each of the "wells" in cakes and spread evenly. At this point, you may freeze one for later use. Otherwise, spread 1 can of pie filling on top of cheese in each one. If desired, decorate flat rim of each with stars of butter-cream icing or softened cream cheese. Each flan serves 6 to 8 people.
