ICE BOX MUFFINS 
3 c. sugar
1 heaping c. shortening
5 tsp. baking soda
1 qt. buttermilk
4 eggs, beaten
4 c. Kellogg's All Bran cereal
2 c. Nabisco 100% Bran cereal
2 c. boiling water
2 tsp. salt
5 c. flour
Raisins, nuts, dates, or peanut butter (if desired)

Pour boiling water over Nabisco 100% Bran. Cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs, buttermilk, and Nabisco Bran. Sift flour, baking soda, and salt together and add all at once with the Kellogg's All Bran. Fold in only until dry ingredients are moist. Bake in greased or lined muffin tins at 400 degrees for 15-20 minutes.

Makes 1 gallon of batter. One pint makes about 9 muffins. This batter, covered, will keep in the refrigerator about 6-7 weeks.
