ONE HOUR BUTTERMILK ROLLS 
2 pkg. yeast
1 1/2 c. lukewarm buttermilk
1/2 c. melted shortening
3 tbsp. sugar
4 1/2 c. flour, plain
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. salt

Sprinkle yeast in 1/4 cup lukewarm water; Add buttermilk, shortening and sugar together and then pour into dissolved yeast in large bowl. Sift flour, soda and salt into liquid mixture; beat until smooth. Let stand for 10 minutes. Roll out; Cut or shape as desired. Place on ungreased baking pan; let rise for 30 minutes in warm place. Bake at 400 degrees for 15 minutes or until lightly browned. Yield: 2 dozen rolls.
