APPLE PLANTATION CAKE | |
2 c. flour 3/4 tsp. nutmeg 1/4 tsp. salt 1/2 c. butter 1 c. cool water 1/2 c. sugar 1/2 tsp. cinnamon 1 tsp. baking soda 1 c. molasses 2 c. thinly sliced apples Sift together flour, sugar, nutmeg, cinnamon and salt. Blend in butter to make coarse crumbs. Set aside. Combine molasses, water and soda. Spread apples evenly over bottom of a 13 x 9 x 2 inch greased pan. Sprinkle 1/3 of crumb mixture over apples. Pour 1 cup of molasses mixture over crumbs. Spread remaining crumbs over top and pour the remaining molasses mixture over the top of the crumbs. Stir mixture in the pan until all ingredients are moistened. Bake at 350 degrees for 35 to 40 minutes. If a glass pan is used, reduce heat a little. Yield: 16 to 20 servings. |
