APPLESAUCE FRUITCAKE 
3 c. applesauce
1 c. shortening
2 c. sugar
1 1/2 c. candied fruit mix
1/2 c. halved candied cherries
1/2 c. candied pineapple, diced
3 c. raisins
1 c. nuts, chopped
1 lb. pitted dates, chopped
4 1/2 c. sifted flour
4 tsp. baking soda
2 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. cloves
1 tsp. salt
1 tsp. nutmeg

Preheat oven 250 degrees. Combine applesauce, sugar and shortening in saucepan. Boil 5 minutes, cool to room temperature. Measure fruit and nuts into bowl. Sift dry ingredients over mixture. Mix until fruit is coated. Add cooled applesauce. Blend thoroughly.

Line three 9x5 inch loaf pans with greased foil. Spoon batter into pans. Bake about 2 1/2 hours or until cake tests done. Remove from pans, cool on racks. Remove foil. Wrap and store.
