WALNUT TORTE CAKE 
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter
3 eggs, withholding 2 whites
1 1/2 c. sifted flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 c. brown sugar
1 c. finely shaved walnuts
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix sugar, butter and eggs until creamed. Sift flour and baking powder and add gradually. Pour into 2 (9") cake tins. Make topping and put on top of cakes before baking. Beat the two egg whites until stiff. Add brown sugar, walnuts and vanilla. Mix thoroughly and spread on cakes. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 40 minutes.
