GINGERBREAD 
1 c. butter (no substitute), melted
2 c. sugar
4 tbsp. molasses
2 tsp. ginger
2 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. ground cloves
1 tsp. nutmeg
1/8 tsp. salt
2 tsp. baking soda
2 c. buttermilk
2 eggs, beaten
3 c. all-purpose flour, sifted

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a 9 x 12 inch pan. Stir together butter, sugar, molasses, spices and salt. Dissolve baking soda in buttermilk and add to butter mixture. Blend well. Beat in eggs. Stir in flour until well blended. Pour into prepared pan and bake for 45 minutes. Serve hot or cold with Lemon Sauce or whipped cream. Yield: 12 to 16 servings.

LEMON SAUCE:

1 c. sugar
1/2 c. butter (no substitute)
Juice of 1 lemon
1 egg, beaten
1/2 c. boiling water

Place ingredients in top of double boiler. Cook and stir until thick. Serve hot or cold. Yield: 2 cups.
