BESSIE'S GINGER SNAPS 
1 egg
2 1/2 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/4 tsp. salt
2 tsp. ginger
2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. allspice
1/4 c. Grandma's dark molasses
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. shortening
1/4 c. bacon grease
1 tsp. vanilla

Mix shortening and sugar; add molasses. Beat eggs and mix well. Sift spices into flour and add to mixture. Batter will be stiff like dough. Put in refrigerator to chill. Spread sugar (granulated) on pie plate. Roll small balls of dough in sugar. Place on cookie sheet ungreased to spread out. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-15 minutes. Keep in cookie jar or tin. Delicious!
