APPLE BUTTER LAYER (OR LOAF)
CAKE
 
3 c. flour
1 1/2 tsp. baking soda
3/4 tsp. salt
3/4 tsp. nutmeg
3/4 tsp. clove
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
3/4 c. butter
1 1/2 c. sugar
3 eggs
1/2 c. buttermilk
1 1/2 c. apple butter

Sift together the dry ingredients. Cream butter and sugar until fluffy. Beat in eggs, one at a time. Combine buttermilk and apple butter. Add alternately with flour mixture, mixing well after each addition. Pour into 2 greased 9 inch round pans or 13 x 9 inch pan.

Bake at 350°F for 35 to 40 minutes.

FROSTING:

1/2 c. butter
1/4 c. evaporated milk
2 tsp. vanilla
1 lb. powdered sugar

Beat until smooth.
