APPLE ROLLS
1 stick butter
2 c. sugar
2 c. water
1 1/2 c. self-rising flour
1/2 c. shortening
1/3 c. milk
2-3 c. chopped apples
1-2 tsp. cinnamon

Melt butter in 13x9 dish.

In saucepan heat sugar and water until sugar melts.

Cut shortening into flour until like fine crumbs. Add milk. Stir until dough leaves side of bowl. Turn out onto floured surface. Knead until smooth.

Roll into 1/4 inch thick rectangle. Sprinkle apples over dough. Sprinkle cinnamon over apples. Roll up as a jelly roll. Dampen edge with water and seal. Slice dough into 16 slices 1/2 inch thick. Place rolls in dish of melted butter. Pour sugar syrup over. (Looks like too much liquid but crust will absorb it.) Bake 55-60 minutes at 350 degrees.

This may be made with other fresh, frozen or canned fruits. If packed in liquid, drain and substitute for part of sugar syrup. Always use 2 cups liquid.
