ROSY APPLE ROLL UPS
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 1/4 c. water
1/3 c. red cinnamon candies
3 c. apples, peeled and chopped
1 tbsp. lemon juice
2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1/4 c. sugar
1/3 c. butter
1 egg and enough milk to make 2/3 c.

Combine first 3 ingredients in saucepan and simmer until candies are dissolved. Pour in 8x12 inch pan or round casserole dish. Reserve 1/2 cup of the syrup for basting later on. While candies are dissolving, prepare apples and sprinkle with lemon juice. Set aside.

Sift together next 4 ingredients into large bowl. Cut in the butter. Combine the egg and milk, beat with fork, add to dry ingredients all at once. Stir until dough forms a ball. Knead 12 to 15 strokes on floured surface. Roll out to a 12-inch square. Brush with 1 tablespoon melted butter and cover with the apples. Roll up and seal edges.

Cut into 8 (1/2 inch) slices and put in red syrup. Bake at 400 degrees for 30 minutes. Baste each roll with 1 tablespoon of the reserved syrup. Bake 10-15 minutes longer. Serve with plain or whipped cream. Serves 8.
