GRANDMA'S FRUITCAKE 
1 c. cut up dates
1/2 c. raisins
1 tbsp. butter
1 tsp. baking soda
1 c. boiling water (pour over above mixture)
1 c. flour
1 c. sugar
1/2 c. nuts
1 tsp. vanilla (mix to above ingredients)
2 egg yolks

Add egg whites beaten stiff, fold into mixture. Bake at 300 degrees for about 2 hours. Use bread pan, line with wax paper. My grandmother made one of these fruitcakes for each of her children and grandchildren every Christmas. It was our special treat!
