DRY "FRIED" ONIONS | |
1 lg. onion (or 2 med. size), peeled & sliced 1/4 c. water 1 tbsp. soy sauce 1. Spray a non-stick skillet or electric skillet liberally with cooking spray (or wipe lightly with vegetable oil). 2. Spread sliced onions in shallow layer. Sprinkle with water and soy sauce. 3. Turn heat to medium; cover and cook 1 minute. Uncover and continue to cook, stirring often, until liquid evaporates and onions begin to brown, but are still tender-crunchy. For softer onions, cover the pan and simmer 3 or 4 minutes over medium heat, then uncover the pan and continue to cook and stir until liquid has evaporated. (Serve with lean broiled steak or hamburgers.) Makes 4 servings. |
