1 c. molasses
1 c. sugar
1 c. shortening

Mix, bring to boil, set aside. Add:

1 tbsp. vinegar
1 tsp. vanilla or the flavoring desired
1 tbsp. baking soda
1 egg, well beaten

Add enough flour to make stiff dough. The stiffer the dough the more brittle the cookie. Bake at 350 degrees until done.
