FROSTED APPLE SQUARES 
PASTRY:

2 1/2 c. all-purpose flour
1 tbsp. sugar
1 tsp. salt
1 c. shortening
1 egg plus milk to make 2/3 c.

FILLING:

2/3 c. corn flake crumbs
5 c. sliced, pared apple
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 egg white, slightly beaten

GLAZE:

1 c. 10x sugar
2 tbsp. lemon juice

1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Bake 40 minutes.

2. PASTRY: Combine all ingredients in a bowl. Shape into ball (dough will be soft).

3. Divide pastry in half. Roll half the dough into 10 x 12 inch rectangle. Place on cookie sheet.

4. Sprinkle with corn flake crumbs. Spread with apples, sugar and cinnamon.

5. Roll remaining pastry into 10 x 12 inch rectangle. Place over apple mixture. Pinch edges firmly, to hold in filling.

6. Brush top with beaten egg white.

7. Bake.

8. Combine 10x sugar and lemon juice.

9. Remove pastry from oven, while hot, drizzle glaze over top. Cool slightly.

10. Cut into squares.
