2/3 c. shortening
1/2 c. brown sugar
1 c. buttermilk
2 1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 c. nutmeats
1 c. white sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. baking powder
1 1/2 tsp. nutmeg
2 1/2 c. diced apples

Cream shortening and sugars. Add eggs. Mix flour, baking powder, salt, nutmeg and cinnamon together. Alternate the buttermilk and soda, with flour mixture into the shortening and eggs. Stir in the diced apples and nutmeats.

TOPPING:

1/2 c. white sugar
1/4 tsp. cinnamon

Sprinkle topping on before baking. Bake at 375 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes.
