UPSIDE DOWN APPLE CAKE | |
2 tsp. butter 1/2 c. firmly packed brown sugar 1/4 c. nuts, chopped 3 c. peeled sliced apples 1 tsp. lemon juice 1 stick butter 2/3 c. firmly packed brown sugar 1/3 c. sugar 1 egg 2 c. all-purpose flour 1 tsp. baking powder 1/2 tsp. baking soda 1/2 tsp. cinnamon 1/4 tsp. nutmeg 1/4 tsp. salt 1/2 c. buttermilk In baking pan melt 2 teaspoons butter, sprinkle 1/2 cup brown sugar evenly over bottom, then nuts, arrange apples, sprinkle with lemon juice, set aside. In mixing bowl cream 1/2 cup butter, gradually add sugar; beat until light and fluffy. Beat in egg. Put in flour mixture (dry ingredients). Add to creamed mixture with buttermilk, beginning and ending with dry mixture. Spread batter over apples. Bake 40 to 45 minutes at 325 degrees. Allow to stand on wire 10 minutes. Serve with any topping. |
