FRESH CORN ON THE COB
(MICROWAVE)

Cook fresh corn on the cob in microwave with husks and silk intact. They will cook in their own natural moisture.

Place on dampened paper towel. Turn ears over and rearrange after 1/2 cooking time.

Cooking Timetable:

1 ear - 1 1/2 minutes
2 ears - 3 to 4 minutes
3 ears - 5 to 6 minutes
4 ears - 7 to 8 minutes
6 ears - 8 to 9 minutes.

When ears are hot to the touch, remove and wrap in kitchen towel or foil.

Let stand at least 5 minutes. Remove husks and silk (which is easier than when cold) and serve.

Serve with melted butter.

Since microwave ovens vary in power, you may need to adjust your cooking time.

 Mark Stanke (Australia) says:
Half way through cooking, on turning, i added some butter to cob, yummy.

 PhoebeAnn (Florida) says:
Not quite as tasty as cooking in a pressure cooker, but faster overall, and does eliminate the tedious task of removing the silks. BTW, did you know there's one silk strand for each kernel on the cob?

 Jo Ann (Florida) says:
Awesome. Just tried it and will never boil corn again if there is a working microwave. Love this suggestion!

 Nita (United States) says:
We cut off the bottom end of the corn, then microwaved for 8 min. For 2 ears. They will be very hot. So, with a hot pad grab the top and shake. The corn on the cob will fall out ready to eat.

Delicious Corn. THE BEST!! HOWEVER!!! The one thing never mentioned here is how to shuck it. That's what makes this method of cooking so great. Take ears out of microwave and place on cutting board. Using a sharp chef knife, cut the stalk end (fat end) off about 1/2 inch back from where the husk starts to bend around the end of the ear toward the stalk. Then grab the ear by the corn-silk end and shake the ear out. It will come out with absolutely have NO corn silk on it. Perfectly clean!!! You may have to cut more or less off to achieve it. The ear should shake out pretty easy.

 Carol (Texas) says:
I have used this way of cooking corn on the cob for years. I cut off each end first to make it easier to remove the husks from the hot corn.

 Marilyn (Texas) says:
Oh my, I just learned the bottom-cut way. Why shuck when you can shake? After nuking, wearing kitchen gloves, cut off the bottom about 2-3 inches above the stem. Pick up by the top and shake out cob. No silks!

 Nancy (Washington) says:
Tried one ear for the time suggested. Corn was not cooked enough.

 Jana (Alabama) says:
I prefer shucking the corn first, rinsing off the silk, then rolling each ear separately in wax paper. The heating times are just right for perfect corn every time.

 Bruce (Wisconsin) says:
I usually husk the corn first and get off the silk, rinse the corn and put on a plate with a little water, cover with a damp paper towel. It comes out great. I have done 6 ears and usually about 8 min.

 Dixie (North Carolina) says:
My only add is to cut through the ear at the bottom... grab the husk at top... pull the ear from bottom. Wow!.. d

 Jimmy says:
Tassels are on top of the stalks, silks are coming out the top of the ear. A farmer.

2 Ears 1100 Watt Microwave at 7 minutes, wrapped in wet paper towels, I also washed the ears down first before cooking. Nuking with husks on comes out great! So easy, I will never be boiling again.

 Joe Donley (Ohio) says:
I was looking to cook only a couple ears without using a big pot of boiling water. I use a wheelchair, so I prefer to not use large pots of water to cook. The only thing I did differently was to let the corn stand 10 minutes, turned out fantastic. I'd recommend this method to all my friends.
