BUTTERY OATMEAL BREADSTICKS 
1 1/2 c. flour
1 pkg. active dry yeast
1 1/4 c. water
2 tbsp. shortening
1 tbsp. sugar
1 1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 c. flour
1 c. quick rolled oats
2 tbsp. melted butter

In large mixer bowl, stir together 1 1/2 cups flour and yeast. Heat together water, shortening, sugar and salt just until warm (115 to 120 degrees); stir to melt shortening. Add to flour mixture. Beat at low speed on mixer for 1/2 minute, scraping bowl constantly. Beat 3 minutes at high.

By hand, stir in 1 1/2 cups flour and oats. Cover and let rise until double. Punch down; let rest 10 minutes. Shape into 24 sticks, 1/2 inch thick. Place on greased baking sheet. Let rise until double. Bake in 375 degree oven for 20-25 minutes.

While warm, brush with melted butter. Makes 24 bread sticks. Good with spaghetti or soups.
