BUTTERSCOTCH BROWNIES 
4 tbsp. melted butter
1 c. dark brown sugar
1 egg
1/2 tsp. salt
3/4 c. flour
1 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. chopped nuts

Mix ingredients in bowl with wooden spoon and pour into buttered 8 x 8 pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. Cool in pan and spread with Caramel icing.

CARAMEL ICING:

1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. dark brown sugar
1/4 c. milk or half and half
1 3/4 to 2 c. confectioners' sugar
1 tsp. maple extract

Melt butter until brown; add brown sugar and cook, stirring until sugar is completely melted. Pour in milk and stir. Cool. Add sifted 10x sugar and extract; beat until thick enough to spread. I usually double the brownie base and bake in a 13 x 9 pan. One recipe of icing will cover a 13 x 9 pan.
