BEST-STUFFED ONIONS
6 med. onions
1/2 tsp. salt
1 c. water
1/2 tsp. sugar
3/4 c. soft bread crumbs
1 tbsp. butter, melted
1/2 lb. ground beef
1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce with cheese
1 tbsp. all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp. salt
2 tbsp. grated Parmesan cheese

Peel onions. Cook in boiling, salted water until tender, 25 to 35 minutes. Drain and cool. Remove centers of onions; chop and reserve 1/2 cup of the onion centers. Cook ground beef with the 1/2 teaspoon salt until lightly browned; drain off fat. Stir in the reserved chopped onion.

Stuff onion shells with ground beef mixture. Place stuffed onions in casserole dish. Combine tomato sauce, then 1 cup water, flour, sugar and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Pour over onions. Bake at 350 degrees for 25 minutes. Combine crumbs, cheese and melted butter; sprinkle over onions. Bake 15 to 20 minutes longer. Makes 6 servings.
