CHEWY COCONUT SQUARES 
1/4 c. butter, softened
3/4 c. sugar, divided
Flour
1/8 tsp. salt
1 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
1/2 c. chopped nuts
1/2 c. shredded or flaked coconut

Cream butter and 1/4 cup sugar until light. Stir in 1/2 cup flour. Pat into greased 8-inch square pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes.

Meanwhile, mix remaining 1/2 cup sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, salt, vanilla, egg, nuts and coconut. Spread evenly over baked dough. Bake 25 minutes or until golden. While warm, cut into 25 squares. Cool in pan on rack.
