HOMEMADE ICE CREAM 
1 qt. milk
1 qt. half & half
1/2 tsp. salt
1 3/4 c. sugar
4 eggs, beaten
1 tbsp. cornstarch
2 lg. cans Pet milk (for "really rich" substitute Eagle Brand sweetened
condensed milk for 1 of the Pet milk)
2 tbsp. vanilla

Stir first 6 ingredients in heavy pan over medium heat until just bubbly around the edges. Cool. Add canned milk and vanilla as well as any additional flavorings, fruit, nuts, etc. Use your imagination--crushed candy canes, mint chocolate morsels, peanut butter chips, maple or butter flavoring with walnut or pecan pieces. etc. (If you do use an additional flavoring or extract, use only 1 tablespoon vanilla.) Pour into container of 4 quart electric ice cream freezer and follow manufacturer's instructions.
