MILE HIGH BISCUITS 
3 to 3 1/2 c. flour
1/4 c. sugar
4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
3/4 tsp. salt
1/2 c. shortening
1 egg, beaten
1 1/8 c. milk

Sift flour, sugar, baking powder, salt and cream of tartar together. Cut in shortening until size of small peas. Stir in milk and egg to make a soft dough. Knead lightly until mass forms up. Roll out about 1/2 inch thick. Cut and place on lightly greased baking sheet. Bake at 450 degrees for 8 to 10 minutes. Yields about 1 1/2 dozen biscuits.
