BEST CHOCOLATE - CHIP COOKIES 
2 1/4 c. sifted flour
1 tsp. salt
1 c. butter, softened
3/4 c. brown sugar
3/4 c. granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. hot water
1 c. chopped nuts
2 (6 oz.) pkgs. semi-sweet chocolate pieces
1 tsp. vanilla

Sift flour and salt. Beat butter, brown and granulated sugars and eggs in large bowl until smooth and well blended. Dissolve soda in water and add to creamed mixture. Stir in flour mixture. Stir in nuts, chocolate and vanilla.

At my house, I chill the dough overnight. When ready for baking, I roll a teaspoon of dough between palms of hands and place balls 2 inches apart on greased cookie sheet. Then I press balls with fingertips to form flat rounds. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 minutes. Makes 100 cookies.
