TORTE LIGHTNING CAKE 
1/2 c. butter
1/2 c. sugar
3/4 c. self-rising flour
4 eggs
4 tbsp. milk
1/4 tsp. cream of tartar

This cake consists of thin layers of cake with filling in between. The cake layers are not as thick as a normal cake layer.

Cream butter and sugar. Add egg yolks. Beat well. Then add milk and sifted self-rising.

Pour into two greased 9 inch pans. Beat egg whites stiff, gradually adding 1 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon cream of tartar while beating. Spread on top of cake layers.

Bake for 35 minutes in a preheated 350°F oven. Spread with whipped cream between layers. Trim with red cherries and walnuts.
