RAISIN SPICE CAKE 
6 tbsp. shortening or sausage fat
3/4 c. dark corn syrup
1 1/2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
1 egg, separated
1 tsp. baking powder
1/4 tsp. ea. of soda and salt
3/4 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. ea. of clover and nutmeg
1/3 c. buttermilk
1/3 c. raisins

Cream shortening, add syrup gradually, beating until mixture is light and fluffy. Add egg yolk and beat well. Sift dry ingredients together and add to first mixture alternately with buttermilk. Fold in raisins and beaten egg white. Pour into 8 inch square pan lined with wax paper. Bake in preheated oven at 350 degrees for about 45 minutes. Cool 5 minutes. Turn out on rack and peel off paper and cool. Frost as desired.
