DOUGHNUTS 
4 c. sifted flour (White Lily, plain)
1 tsp. salt
3 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. grated nutmeg
1 c. sugar
1 egg
1 3/4 c. milk
2 tsp. melted shortening
1 tsp. vanilla

Sift together flour, salt, baking powder and nutmeg. Add sugar. Mix into a light soft dough with well beaten egg, milk, shortening and vanilla. Turn onto well floured board. Roll 1/2" thick. Cut with doughnut cutter. Cook about 3 minutes in deep hot fat. Turn as they rise to the top of fat (oil). Drain on soft paper. Sprinkle with powdered sugar. Makes 3 dozen.
