BROWN RAISIN BREAD
1 (15 oz.) pkg. raisins (3 c.)
2 tbsp. butter or any cooking oil
2 heaping tsp. baking soda

Put the above ingredients into a mixing bowl and add 2 cups of boiling water. Let stand 4 to 5 hours. Then add 2 cups sugar, 2 well-beaten eggs, and 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Stir well. Add 4 cups of flour and beat well.

If you wish, you may add a cup of chopped nuts. We prefer it without nuts. If you like, you can add 1 or 2 teaspoons cinnamon.

Divide the dough into 3 equal parts. Put into 3 well-greased and floured 1-pound coffee cans. Bake in 350 degree oven for 1 hour and 15 minutes. Remove from oven and turn cans upside down. The bread will come out of itself. Bread may be wrapped and frozen and it will keep many months.
