DATE AND NUT BREAD 
1 c. chopped dates
1 1/2 c. boiling water
1 1/2 c. sugar
1 egg
1 tbsp. oil
2 1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. baking powder
1 c. chopped nuts
1 tsp. vanilla
2 1/2 c. flour

Pour boiling water over dates and let stand. Blend oil and sugar. Add egg and blend well. Sift together flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt. Add sugar mixture, nuts and vanilla. Drain dates. Add to mixture. Pour into 2 greased and floured bread pans. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 1/2 hours. Test at 1 hour. Makes 2 loaves.
